Stroke is caused by the disruption of oxygen and nutrients supply to the brain due to blockage in the blood vessel (ischemic stroke) or a damaged blood vessel in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke). Every year, between 105 and 152/100,000 people are affected by stroke in India and about 70-75% of all strokes that occur in India are ischemic.
Endovascular treatment helps to remove a blood clot from the blood vessel and restore the blood flow using microcatheters inserted into an artery from the groin or the arm. The treatment can be done by:
Microcatheter delivery of tissue plasminogen activator to break down the blood clots.
Removal of blood clots using stent retriever devices.
Aspiring the blood clots and restoring the blood flow using vacuum-powered devices.
Carotid artery stenting to increase the blood flow.
Carotid angioplasty in which a balloon is inserted into the carotid artery and inflated to widen the blood vessel.
To help you stay updated with the advances in the treatment of endovascular stroke, we bring you an exclusive MasterSeries webinar by Dr. Shivaji Pole on 17th November 2021, 3:00 PM onwards.
