Now, atrial fibrillation may not feel urgent, but the risk of leaving it untreated is real. The sooner we treat atrial fibrillation, the better we’ll get a result that you wish to seek, i.e. Curative. Now, one of the main concerns of atrial fibrillation is stroke. Or heart failure. When the heart’s rhythm is chaotic, blood can pull, especially in something called the left atrial appendage.
It’s in here that clots form. These can travel to the brain causing a stroke or into the heart arteries causing heart attack. And these risks can over time create heart failure because of the rapid heartbeat and the ineffective contractility of the atrial chambers, which then don’t contribute to cardiac function.
Now, the good news is that all of these risks are manageable. With proper treatment, either medications, monitoring, and sometimes procedures, the risk of atrial fibrillation can be dramatically reduced, and that’s why detection is really important.
