Welcome to @HealthyKidneyInc! I’m Robert Galarowicz, I’ve been through every stage of kidney disease, I’ve been living with a Kidney Transplant for 20 years, and I’m a naturopath and nutritionist.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) does not typically raise blood pressure in people with kidney disease when used properly and in appropriate doses.
It is commonly prescribed to kidney patients to help manage metabolic acidosis, a condition where the body produces too much acid or the kidneys cannot remove enough of it.
In chronic kidney disease (CKD), the kidneys struggle to remove acid from the blood. Sodium bicarbonate helps neutralize this excess acid, which can slow kidney damage, preserve muscle mass, and improve overall health.
When prescribed appropriately, baking soda helps protect kidney function and usually does not raise blood pressure. Self-medicating without supervision, however, can be risky, especially for individuals with existing issues.
It is important to always follow a professional’s dosing instructions and to do regular tests if taking sodium bicarbonate.
